Photographing at the Beach

1. Let the camera “see” the action
Sand, sun, and friends: There’s plenty to capture at the beach. Just place yourself at eye-level with the  subject.  Then look through the viewer and take your best shot.

2. Protect your equipment

Consider bringing a one-time-use camera to the beach, and  leaving fragile equipment at home.

If your camera does get sandy, blow off sand gently.  Remove remaining grains with a lens-cleaning brush.

3. Prevent dark shadows

Want to avoid shadows on faces?  Take pictures in the soft light of a shady area or a cloudy day. On sunny days, if your camera has flash-mode options, select “Fill-Flash.” This activates the flash even in bright sunlight. It "fills" the shadows of nearby subjects, improving  portraits created in direct sunlight.

Every memorable event can become a  story in pictures. An all-day trip makes a  perfect photo story. Show the departure and arrival, plus a picture of your destination's entrance. Capture the day’s special moments, including tired   kids headed home! Combine all the images in a single print with Collage, or create a Photo Book as a keepsake.
